Current Spring, 2021 Class: "Bird Song Ecology & Birding By Ear" (March 11 - May 13, 2021)

Please click on the below flyer to read it. We're focused currently on the following themes for this "sold out" ZOOM class (that, normally, would include several all-day field trips):

- Bird song ecology related to courtship and defense

- Reading sonograms/spectrographs

- Creating individual class presentations (i.e., Each student presents the song ecology and life cycle behavior of a designated songbird species)

- Learning to identify 10 or more species by "ear" only, while also knowing how to create a corresponding sonogram.

- In total, per the syllabus, students are finishing five different activities centered on the song repertoires of local, SF Bay Area songbirds. Each is "hands-on" with them exploring their environs in between classes as they go afield to execute assigned field assignments.

For future classes, contact instructor Daniel Edelstein with questions (danieledelstein@att.net) and see his web site (WarblerWatch.com) to learn more about his background as an Avian Biologist since the 1980s and a Merritt College instructor for bird classes since 2003.
